St. Mark's Lutheran Church was established in 1875 about 7 miles northwest of Auburn in a beautiful little church where the congregation of Zion 16 worships.  We are now a member of the North American Lutheran Church (NALC).

This newly formed church soon went looking for a building in which to gather.  The Presbyterians had an abandoned building which they sold to St. Mark's for $650.00.  It took $400.00 and a lot of hard work, but the members worked side by side to help them proclaim the Good News to the city of Auburn.  The congregation gathered within her walls on December 24, 1876 and celebrated as the Reverand J. Crouse D.D. officiated at the dedication ceremony.

If you drive by the McKinney-Harrison Elementary School, pause for a moment and remember that a tiny little building with a great big heart used to stand there.

For $500.00 the location that is now St. Mark's became our property.  It took $7,000.00 to design and build St. Mark's.  The building was dedicated on November 3, 1989.

In 1891 a basement was added to St. Mark's and provided some much-needed extra room.  St. Mark's was jacked up about three feet and the dirt was dug out from beneath to create a basement.

In 1892 a parsonage was built right where the educational wing now stands.  The home was built for only $1,500!

In 1955 a brand new Moeller pipe organ was purchased for $15,000.00  The sound emitting from those 748 pipes shook the rafters.  Also, a new parsonage was built on Baxter Street in Auburn for $17,500.00.  The former parsonage was turned into a parish house and offices.

On June 10, 1960 a $90,000.00 expansion was started where the old parsonage used to be.  The plans included room for a Chapel, Sunday School rooms, a library and office space.  St. Mark's also bought the house and property that sat just south of St. Mark's on Van Buren Street.  It was an $11,900 investment in our future.  This house was later taken down for more expansion.
